  MUIR, John. THE MOUNTAINS OF CALIFORNIA. New York: The Century Co., 
1913. New and Enlarged Edition. Illustrated from preliminary sketches 
and photographs by the author. Muir's first book, first published 
in1894. This copy is INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front 
endpaper: "To/Mr. J. E. Fries/with sincere regard/John Muir/March 1914." 
  Books signed by America's preeminent naturalist are quite scarce. Old 
dampstaining to various degrees to the margins of many of the plates and 
part of the text. Typical light soiling to covers. Very Good.  $3,000.00
