FS - Who's Who in Indian Relics, Vols 1 to 10, documents outstanding
collections
$2000 USD for the lot of 10. Terms and shipping below.
Pictorial reference books primarily for the documentation of outstanding
Native American artifact collections extant at the time of each volume's
publishing. Each volume photographically documents approximately 75 to
125 collections. Each volume comprised largely of photo plates of Native
American relics such as points, axes, and similar weapons and tools. To
a lesser extent shows baskets, pottery, pipes, clothing, carvings, bird
stones, etc. Often shows the collector with the collection and every
entry has name(s), address, and brief biographical information. Other
portrait photos of the collectors. In Volume 3, in a page devoted to
Hubert C. Wachtel he states that many of the collectors in Volume 1 have
passed on. It can be assumed that some of these collections have been
disbursed and that these books are the only available documentation of
those collections when intact.
Hardcover 4to.Textured burgundy on boards. Contents lists the collectors
by name. Not indexed. All are stated to be "privately printed" and
"First Edition." All have higher-quality photo reproduction than the
scarce reprints of a few volumes. Glit title to spine and front cover,
gilt illustration to front cover. No DJ, as-issued. All with the
ownership blind stamp of Jack McKim Vorhies, noted numismatic author of
books about obsolete bank notes. Except as-noted, all are internally and
externally clean.
Individual volumes are uncommon and sets are absolutely scarce.
