EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED and INCLUDES A PLATE WITH MOUNTED "BONAPARTE" SIGNATURE OF
NAPOLEON; two large octovo volumes (9" x 6"), BOUND IN FULL STRAIGHT-GRAINED
MOROCCO BY WALLIS OF LONDON. _______ Full straight grained brown morocco
with RICHLY TOOLED SPINES (including crowns, bees and eagles), gilt lines on
covers, top page edges gilt; other edges untrimmed; gilt inner dentelles;
marbled endpapers. Original labels for boards inlaid to size and bound in
the front of each volume. Housed in a cloth slipcase. ________ This copy has
been extra illustrated: in addition to the regular 20 colored plates and two
maps, this copy has an additional 76 portraits and views (21 of which are
colored). Eight of the colored views are by George Cruikshank, some of them
from the famous Life of Napoleon by Ireland--these plates are folding and
are views of the battles and indeed are some of the most famous of the
Cruikshank illustrations. ________ This fine, tall copy bears a neatly
calligraphed presentation page "To H. W. Prentis, Jr. in appreciation. The
Philadelphia Carpet and Upholstery Club. 10 May 1946." Prentis was the
president of Armstrong Cork Company in America. ________ Housed in a cloth
slipcase. Images can be supplied. Simply said. A MAGNIFICENT SET in fine
condition and which would be an invaluable addition to any Napoleonic
