Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 11058 ) [Rosewater, Andrew; Henry A. Rowland; and Francis R. Shunk].
REPORT OF THE ELECTRICAL COMMISSION APPOINTED TO CONSIDER THE LOCATION,
ARRANGEMENT, AND OPERATION OF ELECTRIC WIRES IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
Washington: Government Printing Office, 1892. First printing, disbound,
Octavo, 151 pages, 57 plates/maps, Numerous diagrams, fold-out maps.
Disbound.
Fascinating report on the electrification of Washington, DC and the
efforts toward locating wiring in underground conduits. Various methods and
types of materials are here considered, with lots of information gathered
from other cities. The Western Union Telegraph Company was very much opposed
to the undergrounding of wires in the District. There are many interesting
illustrations depicting various aspects and methods of conveying utilities
underground in cities around the world. There is also data as to street
railways, explanations of various conduit systems then in use ranging from
creosoted wood to indurated fiber to the Brooks oil insulated, Lynch Lake,
and Edison systems. Also includes five large fold-out maps of Washington, to
wit: "General Plan of Conduit System Proposed," "Maps of Western Union
Telegraph Company's Lines," "Map of Telephone Lines," "Map of Electric-Light
Companies' Lines," and "Map of District Wires of Fire-Alarm and
Police-Signaling Service." This document is disbound from a larger volume
and lacks covers and spine. The textblock is sewn but with the first two
leaves attached at the uppermost sewing support. Interior clean and sound,
plates in excellent condition. Fold-out maps have a few short tears at
folds. No loss....... $125.00
