Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 10495 ) Butler, C[lement]. M[oore]. (1810-1890). FUNERAL ADDRESS ON
THE DEATH OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN, DELIVERED IN THE CHURCH OF THE COVENANT, APRIL
19, 1865 BY THE REV. C. M. BUTLER, D. D..
Philadelphia: Henry B. Ashmead, Book and Job Printer, 1865. First printing,
Wrappers, Octavo, 32 pages. Near fine.
Rev. Butler's sermon was delivered in Philadelphia at the same time
Lincoln's funeral was taking place in Washington. He sees, in Lincoln's
murder, the true spirit of the rebellion that was inaugurated in behalf of a
system of oppression, and blames the assassination on Southern propaganda.
An AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED by Butler is laid in, replying to a request for a
photograph. MONAGHAN #434. These days I feel compelled to point out that
this is an original printing from 1865, not some hokey print-on-demand copy.
Bound in original plain tan wrappers with printed front cover. Rear cover
has a 3/4" diagonal chip at heel of spine, otherwise clean and sound with
just a few extremity rubs....... $150.00
