August1943. Excellent Letter SIGNED as "W. C. Williams" addressed "Dear 
Brumbaugh" on a large (8-1/2" x 13") sheet of paper. The poet's large 
handwriting fills the oversized sheet.. In full: "You saw the poem and 
letter in print before I did. On my 12 day vacation part of which I am 
spending with a friend at Irvington on the Hudson. It's marvelous to be 
away from the medical grind that constitutes my life. Thanks for the 
letter which I appreciate, very thoughtful of you. I'm sending the 
letter to New Republic in the hope that they may want to use it. I hope 
they do. Yes, I've never had a regular publisher. Jim Laughlin of New 
Directions at one time said he'd bring out anything I should write - but 
he too said he had to pass me up this time. Best luck to you. It's about 
all I can say - having two sons in the Navy myself." Would make for a
