Barton). LINCOLN THE LITIGANT.
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1925. First printing, Hardcover, Octavo, 
x, 117 pages, black and white photographs, plates. Near Fine.
      Townsend, a lawyer, searched Illinois court records for these 
interesting accounts of the cases in which Lincoln himself was either the 
plaintiff or defendant. Includes Lincoln's first appearance as a defendant, 
for operating a ferryboat without a license, and speculates that the case 
may have sparked Lincoln's interest in the law. Illustrated with photographs 
and facsimile documents. This edition was limited to 1,050 copies. MONAGHAN 
#2816. Bound in slate blue paper over boards with spine label titled in 
black. Minor rubs to extremities, spine mildly browned, title label on spine 
is rubbed, and there is a . 25" water tide mark at fore edge of both boards 
(though not touching the textblock). Some faint foxing inside....... $75.00
