PURCHAS, Samuel. PURCHAS HIS PILGRIMAGE, OR RELATIONS OF THE WORLD AND
THE RELIGIONS OBSERVED IN ALL AGES AND PLACES DISCOVERED FROM THE
CREATION UNTO THIS PRESENT. IN FOURE PARTS. THIS FIRST CONTAYNETH A
THEOLOGICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL HISTORIE OF ASIA, AFRICA, AND AMERICA, WITH
THE ILANDS ADJACENT. DECLARING THE ANCIENT RELIGIONS BEFORE THE FLOUD,
THE HEATHENISH, JEWISH, AND SARACENICALL IN ALL AGES SINCE... THE THIRD
EDITION, MUCH ENLARGED WITH ADDITIONS THROUGH THE WHOLE WORKE. London:
Henry Fetherstone, 1617. Third Edition. Quarto (7-1/4" x 12") bound in
early 19th century half calf and marbled boards with calf corners,
recently rebacked with the original spine laid down and a new
gilt-lettered morocco spine label; [xl], 1102, [40] pages. Illustrated
with woodcut initials and ornaments. Sabin 66679. Very slight worming
from A1-L4 mainly of sidenotes, some damp-staining mostly affecting the
outside corners and hardly visible on most pages. Older spine label laid
in. Interesting note, apparently in a 17th century hand, by Richard
Higginbotham recording the purchase and completeness of the book. Early
owner names of Ann Calbhoishe, William M. Gunn, and Edward Len on the
title page. Very Good or better. $2,500.00
