FS: Ansel Adams typed letter, signed. Trade discount honored.

Ansel Adams, typed letter signed on Ansel Adams stationery. Dated May 6,
1964. This letter is addressed “Dear Dr. Davenport,” and continues to
explain that he has just returned from a trip, hence “tardiness in replying
to your letter of the 27th and commenting upon the prints.” After other
comments on the presentation, he critiques a long list of individual images
from a 2-Volume portfolio of images submitted by Davenport. Also present
with the letter is a portion of one volume of the portfolio, with 5 images
remaining in it. Cursory examination suggests that this is Vol 1 of the two.
The letter signs off, “Keep it up – send more stuff whenever you can! all
best” (signed in pen) "Ansel Adams." In very good condition. Price: $2000.

ABOUT Charles K. Davenport:
Charles K. Davenport graduated in medicine from the University of
California, San Francisco, in 1947. He was a member of San Bernardino County
Medical Society from circa 1950 and for a total of 51 years. In 1953 he
served two years in the Air Force in England as Chief of Medicine and Chief
of Professional Services. He subsequently practiced medicine in Fontana and
for 16 years was the Director of Executive Health at Kaiser Steel. He also
taught at UCSF, USC, and Loma Linda University. He was an insurance examiner
and Director of Occupational Health for San Bernardino County.

During his school years, Davenport sold photographs at banks, business
offices, and other venues to help support his studies. He was a student of
Ansel Adams in the 1960s, and they remained lifetime friends. Davenport’s
landscapes and still lifes were exhibited in the former medical society in
Colton, and in San Bernardino County Museum, UC Riverside, and many other
venues in California and later, in Oregon. His images appeared on magazine
covers, calendars, and in books and an encyclopedia. He had many other
professional associations and honors in California. Davenport passed away in
Springfield, Oregon in 2007.
