“ART IN ADVERTISING. A Study of British and American Pictorial Publicity”

By Percy V. Bradshaw.
Published in London by The Press Art School. Not dated, but around 1925.

DISCUSSION: A massive survey of 1920s pictorial advertising in America and
England, and an attempt to educate both its practitioners and the public
concerning what made a good advertisement, pictorially and layout-wise,
and what did not. The author was the Director of the Press Art School and
author of “The Art of the Illustrator”. The text begins with “Art and the
Public –A Talk to Frank Brangwyn, R.A.”, and then moves on to Art and the
Business Man - Pictorial Composition, Design and Layout – The Art of the
Printer – The Advertising Agent and His Work – Commercial Studios and
Their Work – The Art Agent and His Work – The Art of the Poster – Art and
the Railways – Art and the Shipping Companies – Notable Advertising
Campaigns – Retail Store Advertising – Art in American Advertising.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 10”x12.5”, 496 pages, hundreds of black and white
and some color reproductions of advertisements and layouts.

CONDITION NOTES: The covers have some rubbing and light wear, and a little
soil (please see the photo). The front paste-down had a name & address
written on it which has been blacked out. There is some very minor,
scattered soil inside, and the hinges are just slightly loose, but overall
a good example of a large, heavy book.

PRICE: $125~
