Greetings all,

A bit of London history for you, $50 ppd media mail. Will ship elsewhere.

Bridewell Royal Hospital Past and Present: A Short Account of it as Palace, Hospital, Prison, and School. Copeland, Alfred James. Wells Gardner, Darton & Co., 1888. Hardcover, G+. Three-quarter leather with black cloth, gilt title on spine, five raised bands. Leather is scraped and worn, torn at the spine heel (1 1/2 inch flap has been reattached). At bottom of front pastedown is printed "Bound by Eyre & Spottiswoode" which was the London-based printing firm that was the King's Printer. Penned to an endpaper in two different hands: "with the author's kind regards" (no signature) and "Son of the late Alderman Copeland of the well known porcelein factory originally "Spode." Yet another hand wrote a name (difficult to make out) and 1891 at the top of the title page. Binding is cracked between the frontispiece and title page, with the later nearly detached. Hinges are secure. Bridewell Palace was originally a residence of Henry VIII. A school building is named after the author, who was Treasurer from 1885 to 1896, and again 1900 to 1920. 151pp. Size: Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall.
