The first mention in a book of Thoreau at Walden Pond.

[PUTNAM, George P. & BRIGGS, Charles F. (editors)]. HOMES OF AMERICAN
AUTHORS; COMPRISING ANECDOTICAL, PERSONAL, AND DESCRIPTIVE SKETCHES BY
VARIOUS WRITERS. New York: G. P. Putnam, 1853. First Edition. Original
decorated blue cloth with gilt insets on each cover. The homes of 17
authors are described and illustrated with views of their residences
from original drawings and a facsimile of a manuscript for each.
Included are John James Audubon, James K. Paulding, Washington Irving,
William Cullen Bryant, George Bancroft, Richard Henry Dana, William H.
Prescott, Miss C. M. Sedgwick, J. Fenimore Cooper, Edward Everett, Ralph
Waldo Emerson, William Gilmore Simms, Henry W. Longfellow, Nathaniel
Hawthorne, Daniel Webster, John Pendleton Kennedy, and James Russell
Lowell. Fourteen of the illustrations are small color-tinted and mounted
views; nineteen are full-page steel engravings. BAL 1345: the most
expensive "proof" issue; Bennett, AMERICAN COLOR PLATE BOOKS, p. 58.
Authors include George W. Curtis, William C. Bryant, and Edward E. Hale.
The piece on Emerson includes apparently the first mention in a book of
Thoreau at Walden Pond. Toning to text, light and scattered foxing.
Cloth rubbed especially along the edges, with some splits along the
joints, but covers tight. Very Good copy of this handsome volume.
