O'Hooligan's Fine Forms

Bobbs-Merrill, 1904, 1st Thus, Hardcover, Small 8vo  7½" - 8" tall, 157 
pp., VG-/ Well-worn spine ends. Nick to spine at the hinge. Spine 
scuffed and lighter than the quarter spine on the covers. All edges of 
the paper covers show wear Lacks the front free endpaper.

The hitherto "unpublished judicial utterances of Justice O'Hooligan." 
Basically a turn of the century satire on legal proceedings and the law. 
Documents 12 fictional cases where the Justice served justice. Examples 
include a judicial opinion regarding a suit for the delivery of bad 
cigars, a suit to recover costs from the Hale and Hearty Fire and Life 
Insurance Company, etc.

Pastedowns printed with a fictional coat of arms depicting a marching 
duck with a feather in it's bill and the Latin "Holeus Laser" and "In 
Hoc Signo Spes Mea" with "If you see a head hit it." Quarter calf 
leather with dark green paper on boards, gilt title to cover and spine. 
Head off text block trimmed, other edges not. Penciled name of previous 
owner and tiny ownership stamp to title page.

Author was a member of the Wisconsin bar and wrote other works on 
philosophy, religion, and astrophysics (and his views on that were 
marginalized by the scientific community in their day). Clean. Several 
copies in institutions, otherwise scarce.
