      Early edition of Franklin's famous "Autobiography." Two volumes in one
as originally issued in America, including the famous frontispiece portrait
of Franklin in his beaver hat as engraved by P. R. Maverick. This copy
belonged to Sydnor Bailey and bears his name in manuscript ink at top of
title page and printed at top of Preface. HOWES F323, etc. The binding is
worn with rubs at extremities, cracks along joints, chipping at head and
heel of spine, and a 1" x 1.5" piece of leather missing from board surface
at lower fore corner of upper board. Interior, however, is very nice with
only light browning to text pages. Sewing remains strong, hinges not
cracked........ $400
