Emendato... (Venice: Melchiorem de Sessa. April 27, 1510). 4to. ff.100. 
Large astrological woodcut on title, and text profusely illustrated with 77 
fine woodcuts, depicting astronomical knowledge, women (illustrating vices and 
virtues), and dozens of woodcuts of animals. Woodcut device of M. Sessa (cat 
& mouse) on A1 verso and another device on final leaf. 19th century full 
green straight grained morocco, gilt. A.e.g. Some light text soiling. Spine 
extremities a bit rubbed, but overall a very nice copy of a very rare book.

An important early edition (the 1510 edition has been called "the least 
faulty of the many editions") of THE ACERBA written by Cecco d'Ascoli 
(1257-1327). It is an encyclopaedic poem dealing with Astronomy, stellar influences, 
vices and virtues, animals and minerals, etc., etc. The author became a 
professor of astrology at the University of Bologna and was a man of great 
knowledge. Sander #1886. Essling #1332. BL Italian STC p. 638 (this copy and one 
in Germany are the only copies recorded in OCLC). No copy at auction (ABPC 
database).
