Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 11227 ) Grant, Nicholas B[iddle]. (1846-1936). THE LIFE OF A COMMON SOLDIER 1862-1865.
LaFollette: The LaFollette Press, [1927?]. First printing, Wrappers, Octavo, 36 pages. Good.
Grant was a native of Campbell County, Tennessee and at age 16 slipped through Confederate lines into Kentucky to join other loyal Tennesseans forming Union regiments there. He joined the Sixth Tennessee Regiment in April of 1862 at Camp Beech, near the town of Jellico. Grant here records many interesting anecdotes from a young boy's perspective. His memoir is one of the more scarce soldier's narratives of the Civil War. Bound in brown paper covers over stapled binding with title printed in black on front cover. Covers have mild creases, edge rubs, and moderate soil. Textblock and covers have been chewed at heel of spine to a depth of about .25", though no text is affected. Lightly browned inside with a few faint dampstains in margins....... $500.00
