Several armorial bookplates of James W. Alexander (this is probably either the Virginia-born James Waddel Alexander, 1804-1859, who held several professorships at Princeton, or his namesake, 1839-1915, President of the Equitable Life Assurance Society.) A man of many talents, and a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Hopkinson's writings encompass science, invention, literature, the American Revolution (many), insanity, Franklin, the law (including many on Admiralty Law), orations,and poetry including poems on the Revolution, and one describing the desecration of black graves to obtain corpses for medical students.
