(INCUNABULA) Johannes Gallensis (John of Wales). SUMMA DE REGIMINE VITAE
HUMANAE. Venice: Georgius Arrivabenus. July 30, 1496. Sm. 8vo. ff.369(of 370).
Double column text. With blank leaf H8, but lacking the final leaf
containing the printer's device (verso blank). Early vellum with old calf spine
labels, rubbed. Title leaf a bit soiled and repaired (reinforced) at lower blank
portion. Some occasional light soiling. Top margin somewhat closely
trimmed. $4,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
The last 15th century edition of the works of Johannes Gallensis (usually
found under the title "Summa Collationum, Sive Communiloquium"). Included are
the texts of his major works, "The Communiloquium," "The Breviloquium" and
"The Compendiloquium," as well as his "De Vita Religiosa." "John of Wales"
was a celebrated and popular Franciscan author (mid-13th century). This
edition is a nice example of an early small format (under 6" tall) "pocket book."
