L'IMPRESSION DES TISSUS. Ouvrage 165 Figures et 429 Enchantillons Intercales dans le 
Texte... Paris: Victor Masson... 1846. 8vo. 5 volumes: 4 vols. of text, plus 
the "Atlas." Text vols. are illustrated with 165 text figures and all 429 
original mounted cloth samples of color printed designed textiles. Cont. 
calf, gilt, hinges rubbed, over marbled boards. Occasional foxing. The first 15 
leaves of Vol. 4, with old brown discoloration (oil stain?), not affecting 
readability. The "Atlas" volume is a folio (cont. rust cloth, gilt) 
containing 3 double-page color printed charts, and 17 engraved plates illustrating 
the machines & technology for printing color cloth. Of the 17 "Atlas" plates, 
16 are double-page; the single page plate is hand colored.     $2,500.00

Jean-Francois Persoz's (1805-1868) brilliant & comprehensive treatise on 
decorative, color printed fabrics and color theory application. It includes a 
survey of all the known organic and inorganic dyes. The original cloth 
samples included are from the "most modern" textile manufacturing centers of 
England, Scotland, Switzerland and France.
