We offer for your consideration;
BASEBALL SCRAPBOOKS, 1941-1942. Quarto. Unpaginated. (112pp. & 62pp.) These were created by a young fan, “Ralph Abbott” in Syracuse New York. Many of the clippings are from the Syracuse newspapers, the Post Standard & Herald Journal. There is much on the Syracuse Chiefs, the then International League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, (today, the Washington Nationals). There is a note on the inside front cover; “Dedicated to the New York Yankees World Champions for 1941”. An interesting collection of pieces as the year progresses. The War looms and there is speculation as to who will be drafted, Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio etc. Bullet Bob Feller is shown as an ace of the Indians and later as a member of the U.S. Navy. Nice full page, (folded) account of the All-Star game and the famous Williams home run. Several Babe Ruth clippings, as the Babe is back in uniform in Hollywood assisting in the filming of Pride of the Yankees. Later the Babe is shown seeking R & R after some illness. Pistol Pete Reiser of the Dodgers makes some prominent appearances. There is a page or two on the epidemic of the beanball and baseball superstitions. Full page color pictures of Bill Dickey, Joe Kuhel, Joe Cronin, Mel Ott, Thornton Lee & Whitlow Wyatt. All pages are filled. Lefty Grove, Pee Wee Reese, Bob Feller, Rookie Stan Musial, Hank Greenberg, Enos Slaughter, Johnny Vander Meer, Frank Crosetti, Joe McCarthy, Freddy Fitzsimmons, Dom Dimaggio, Great nostalgia, great baseball, great fun! Postpaid, $100.00
