MDXXXVII: Adiectum est Pastea Enchiridion Christianae Institutionis. Venice: 
(Giovanni Andrea Valvassori?). 1541. 8vo. ff.(8),448(i.e. 440). Title within an 
elaborate woodcut border, illustrating numerous coats-of-arms. One full-page 
woodcut and woodcut initials. Cont. vellum. An old name on a blank portion 
of the title has been erased, leaving a few small holes (no loss on recto or 
verso). Some occasional text soiling, but overall very good.     $1,000.00

This is the scarce first edition of many to be printed in Italy (the first 
edition is Cologne, 1537), of the declarations of the provincial synod of 
the Archbishopric of Cologne of 1536. It was convened by Archbishop Hermann V 
of Wied. Not in BL Italian or Adams.
