(LAW) Coke, Edmund. THE FIRST PART OF THE INSTITUTES OF THE LAWS OF
ENGLAND, or, a Commentarie Upon Littlejohn... London: [Adam Islip] For the Society
of Stationers. 1628. Folio. ff.(7),395,(1). Lacking blank A1. Title within
an ornate woodcut border. Cont. calf, somewhat worn, spine/hinges with a few
cracks & chips, but quite sound. The first leaf of text after the preface is
a bit chipped at the edges, with some marginal creases (it appears that it
may have been loose at some time and re-inserted, but not from another copy
as the leaf size is exact). Quite clean internally. $1,750.00 (trade
discount allowed)
As with many copies, the folding table of consanguinity and the 1 or 2
portraits are not present. Nevertheless, this is a decent copy, in its original
binding, of one of the greatest books of English law. See PRINTING AND THE
MIND OF MAN #126. STC 15784.
