WILLIAMS, Hugh William. SELECT VIEWS IN GREECE. London: Longman, 1829. 
First Edition. Folio (11-1/2" x 15-3/4") bound in full gilt red morocco. 
Proof copy on large paper with some of the plates before letters. The 64 
steel-engraved plates after Williams are on India paper, mounted. Both 
half titles present as is the list of plates. Blackmer 1811, Blackmer 
Sale 1096. Beautifully bound in full red morocco by John Wright with 
multiple gilt-ruled borders featuring an elaborate vase design with an 
alternating floral design in the interior, gilt dentelles, all edges 
gilt. The spine has five raised bands with a complex floral gilt design 
on five panels and a leather label with gilt lettering on another. Very 
scarce in this state, apparently one of only 12 folio proof copies 
published. There is minor rubbing to the spine edges and corners, a 
little heavier at the upper rear. The front panel has two not very 
terrible scratches. A few places on both pastedowns have the marbled 
paper stripped indicating the removal of something large taped there. 
The contents are generally quite clean. Some spotting mainly to the 
verso and margins of the plates, rarely near the images. A few text 
leaves are quite darkened. Near Fine copy, beautifully bound. 		$3,500.00
