OF RELATION TO THE EMPEROR CHARLES V.
Cleveland: Arthur H. Clark Company, 1908. First printing, Hardcover,
Octavos, xii, 354 & viii, 374 pages, black and white plates, maps. Very
good, ex library.
Cortes led a renegade expedition into Mexico that led to the fall of
the Aztec empire, after which he appealed directly to the king for
recognition of his success. Translated and edited, with biographical
introduction and notes compiled from original sources by MacNutt. This
edition was 750 copies and then the type distributed. Bound in dark green
cloth over boards with gray paper sides, gilt-stamped spine titles with coat
of arms in gilt on upper boards, top edges gilt. This set deaccessioned from
a private institutional library with catalogue number at heel of spines and
unobtrusive stamps to a few preliminary leaves....... $100.00
