Inscribed to George M. Cohan, popular songwriter who wrote "Over There"...we

New York: Century Co., 1920. First printing, Original cloth, Octavo, xxviii,
296 pages, black and white photographic plates. Near Fine.
Study of America's merchant marine and how it was revitalized by World
War I. Part of the Century Foreign Trade Series. This copy is INSCRIBED to
composer George M. Cohan and SIGNED by Hurley on front free endpaper. Cohan
was one of the most popular American songwriters in the early 20th century,
producing classics such as "Give My Regards to Broadway," "You're a Grand
Old Flag," and the World War I song "Over There." Hurley's inscription to
Cohan reads: "To the American who heartened / the Allies and his own
countrymen / at the most critical period / of the worlds history by /
writing that wonderful / song - "Over There" / George M. Cohan / with the
sincere regards of / Edward N. Hurley / December 1921". Nice association
with the era. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with blind-stamped device
to upper board, darkened gilt titles to spine. Minor extremity wear, a few
shallow bumps to exterior....... $50.00
