Mayerne, Louis Turquet de. THE GENERALL HISTORIE OF SPAINE... Written in 
French by Lewis de Mayerne Turquet, Unto the Yeare 1583: Translated Into 
English , and Continued Unto These Times by Edward Grimeston, Esquire. London: 
Printed by A. Islip and G. Eld. 1612. Folio. (8),1380,(28)pp. Index. The first 
leaf, a blank, present. Title within a fine woodcut border. Cont. full 
calf, both covers with the gilt arms of the Order of the Garter. Orig. spine 
label, "Grimeston's Spanish History." Spine extremities chipped, and with some 
cracks towards the top of spine. Hinges are quite strong. This copy with 
early American provenance. With the signature of Lucy Foxcroft, daughter of 
clergyman Thomas Foxcroft (1697-1769) of Cambridge, Massachusetts, a prolific 
author. And with the signature of Joseph E. Foxcroft, who apparently gave 
this copy to the Cony Female Academy in Augusta Maine (founded 1815), with 
their bookplate. Very scarce in an original binding.     $4,500.00 (trade
