[LOCKE, JOHN]. SOME THOUGHTS CONCERNING EDUCATION. THE FOURTH EDITION, ENLARGED. London: Printed for A. & J. Churchill, at the Black Swan in Pater-noster-row, 1699. Old contemporary calf, some rubbing, &c, paste-downs partly discolored (probably from a former protective wrapper), signatures of Thos. Williams, 1784 and J.(?) Dickens, "Bought of Briscoe." There are a number of small ink strokes (counting?) on the margin of one page and one written word crossed through in the margin of another.
("In educational theory and method he held advanced opinions, insisting especially on the importance of guarding the formation of habits, and on training in wisdom and virtue rather than on information as the main object of education. Many of his ideas are still among the objects aimed at, rather than achieved, by educational reformers.")
