Lubbock (1876-1944), text. SAIL: THE ROMANCE OF THE CLIPPER SHIPS.
New York: Madison Square Press, (1972). Reprint, Full cloth, Folios, over
400 pages, Full page plates, mostly color. Fine in a very good slipcase.
Three beautiful volumes of Spurling's paintings and Lubbock's text,
capturing the clipper ship era. Much of the work herein was originally done
for F. H. Hook's "Blue Peter" magazine in the late 1920s to early 1930s, and
was gathered by Spurling and Lubbock while many of the ships and men who
sailed them were still around. First two volumes edited by F. A. Hook, third
volume edited by Alexander Campbell. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards
with spines and upper boards titled and ornamented in gilt, pictorial
endpapers. The set is housed in a slipcase with pictorial cloth sides. No
significant wear to books, mild extremity wear to slipcase which includes
edge rubs and some splitting to cloth along top fore edge joint. Still
