Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 11277 ) Rees, Abraham (1743-1825). REES'S NAVAL ARCHITECTURE
(1819-20): A SELECTION FROM THE CYCLOPAEDIA; OR UNIVERSAL DICTIONARY OF
ARTS, SCIENCES AND LITERATURE.
(Annapolis): United States Naval Institute, (1970). Full cloth, Quarto, 183
pages, Scaled drawings, plates, many fold-outs. Very good in a very good
dust jacket, Jacket in Mylar protector.
Rees's Cyclopaedia was the first to focus on technological subjects
and innovations. These extracts comprise Rees's information on naval
architecture, and together present a comprehensive outline of the state of
this science just after the Napoleonic Wars. Among the fascinating treasures
to be found herein are full instructions for drawing plans and laying off
the lines of a seventy-four gun ship, fully illustrated by detailed
engravings. Numerous large fold-out drawings. This was famed naval architect
and ship historian Thomas C. Gillmer's copy, with his bookplate on front
pastedown and his name, date and town (Annapolis) boldly penned on front
free endpaper. Bound in light brown cloth over boards with gilt-stamped
spine titles, green endpapers. A few minor stains toward spine ends, slight
rubs at spine extremities. Jacket has some minor edge wear....... $125.00
