Old Testament with a fine copper engraved title page, and a full page copper engraving of Adam & Eve in the Garden. Text illustrated with numerous woodcuts, including a woodcut map of the Holy Land on the second leaf of the New Testament. Bound in 19th century brown calf, over brown pebbled cloth, extremities rubbed but quite sound. A very nice copy overall with the following faults: the inner margin of leaf A1 (after the preliminaries) has a 3" repaired tear, with a slight loss; and leaf 2T5 with a repaired tear (no loss). Some light soiling, and a few leaves with minor marginal tears. The verso of the title page of the New Testament has a contemporary inscription of 5 lines beginning, "My son Thomas Smith was borne the 15 daye of August... 1616." The top of this leaf and the top of the previous leaf (the last leaf of the Apocrypha) have some old soiling, a moderate brown stain.       $2,750.00 (trade discount allowed)

A "Geneva-Tomson-Junius" edition, also one of the many so-called "Breeches" Bibles, for the reading of the last word in Genesis III, 7. Herbert #289. Barker, "The King's printer," printed octavo, quarto and folio editions of the Bible, beginning in 1600. The last folio edition of the Geneva Bible was printed by Barker in 1611, the same year that he printed the King James' Bible.
