presentation copy inscribed by Mrs. Sandford at the top of the title

A life skills guide for women, as well as an account of the social
conditions under which they lived. Mrs. Sandford wrote extensively on
women: "Woman, in Her Social and Domestic Character" (1831); "Lives of
English Female Worthies" (1833); and with a co-author, "Woman As She
Should Be" (1839).
