Folio, 15-1/2 X  10 inches, later chipped, repaired  wrappers. Elaborate engraved title page, 16 pages of text, and 25 engraved plates of alphabets from all the known world numbered 1 to 25. A clean copy of this notable work by a master calligrapher.   Includes Hebrew, Syrian, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Phoenician, Ethiopian, Egyptian, Etruscan, Anglo-Saxon, Russian, Serbian, Armenian, Georgian, Persian, Bengali, Siamese, Tibetan, Manchurian, Japanese, Chinese, &c.  Paillasson contributed the section on calligraphy to Diderot's Encyclopedia. Although similar in title, this is not the same work as his treatise on writing methods, but a separate, and rarer work.  OCLC locates only 1 copy - at the German National Library.
