(16),222pp. Greek & Latin text. Title within a type border. Nicely
bound in early 19th century full calf with the large gilt coat-of-arms
of the Earl of Mexborough; binding signed by "Hering." Spine lightly
rubbed, but a very nice copy.	$850.00 (trade discount allowed)
The first edition of the author's scarce first book (the DNB lists an
ORATORIO by Duport in 1631, but this was never printed). Duport
(1606-1679) was the regius professor of Greek at Cambridge and later
Master of Magdalene College. This book is his version of the Book of
Job in Homeric Greek. The DNB states, "this translation obtained for
its author the fame of both a scholar and a poet, and continued to be
for some years a classical book at the University [Cambridge] and other
places of education. It was reprinted in 1653. STC 7365.
