KINGDOMS, PRINCIPALITIES, GOVERNMENTS, ISLANDS; COMMERCIAL, CIVIL, 
AND MILITARY ESTABLISHMENTS, DEPENDANT ON THE CROWN OF GREAT-BRITAIN, 
IN EVERY PART OF THE WORLD. Originally compiled by the late Reverend 
John Entick, M.A. and improved by James Webster, ... Illustrated with 
maps.  [FOUR VOLUMES]. London: Printed for W. Lane and J. Fielding, 
[n.d. 1704?]. Illus. with 7 [of 8] engraved maps (5 folding). 8vo. 
Contemporary calf, five raised bands, ruled in gilt, red morocco 
labels lettered in gilt.

Published later with the title: 'The present state of the British 
Empire.' The American colonies are described in detail in Volume IV: 
pp. 293 to 494. Maps include "North America from Cape Florida to 
Baffins Bay" and "The British Island and Privileges in the West 
Indies." "After a volume of generalizing, separate treatment is given 
to the government, trade and manufactures, manners, religion, navy, 
army, laws, revenue, customs, every county and colony. Illustrates 
the great advantages of Great Britain over all the rest of the 
earth," (Williams, Guide to Some Aspects of English Social History, 
p. 26). Quite uncommon. Of this edition ESTC shows only two copies: 
Lib. Co, Phila. and Newberry, and OCLC shows only 8 copies of any 
edition with this title. Last at auction at Sotheby's 1962. 
Provenance: Philip S. Van Rensselaer, Albany, 1829. Headbands lacking 
on a few volumes, spines varnished, scuffing to boards, Vol. IV with 
splits along backstrip and part of label lacking, minor dampstaining 
in Vol. III, signatures of early owner in each volume, some maps with 
small tears, one map with crude repairs on the verso, lacking the map 
of Britain, but overall still a good solid set. ESCT N33142. Cf.
