The “Froschmeusler” is Rollenhagen’s (1542-1609) principal work. It is
a free adaptation of the “Batrachomyomachy,” the pseudo-Homeric battle
of the frogs and mice. The aim of this long poem (from Rollenhagen’s
Lutheran standpoint) is moral; a demonstration of the roles of men from
commoner to ruler, as proscribed by God. It was first published in 1595.
