ALS, 4 to pages, Williamsburg, July, 1868, from Mary Washington to “Pa” [R. J. Washington at Oak Grove, Westmoreland Co., Va. ?] unsigned, much about disputes re disbursement  of legacies and disposition of land. Mentions Dr. Coleman, Campbelltown, Fowler, her brother Richard [Washington], Bob and Lloyd [Washington] her child, Mammy Patty, Margaret, &c. Mentions loss of bank stock during the War.

ALS, John Claggatt, Hastings, Minn., Jan. 1866, re the will of Henry A. Washington, a possible inheritance for Bob and his brother Lloyd Washington, land in  Minn. & Wisc. formerly managed by Robert’s brother Richard + another letter of Oct., 1868, re the estate, bill for services, &c. 

Another ALS from Claggatt,3 & 1/2 pages,  Feb., 1866, to Laurence Washington at Richmond. Tax payments, proposed sale of land in  Minn. & Dakota (after it is improved). Mentions the death of Laurence’s son Richard (who died in ‘63.)  

Last page of a 4to letter from Cynthia B. T.[?] Coleman, mentioning Sadie, settlement and distribution of the estate, &c. 

Full page letter from George Washington, Alexandria, 1856, to Laurence Washington.Grain market and sales. Family news: Henry, Bettie and his wife’s sister, Mrs. Payne

Another letter from the same, one 4to page, Alexandria, Jan., 1857, to Laurence Washington, his father. Acknowledges his father’s help with a $2,000 loan, family news, Sadie, the arrival of Mrs. Thompson, the health of a family member who is ill in Williamsburg.

ALS from Thos. Donoho of the National Intelligencer, Mar. 1854, to Laurence Washington, re his subscription to the paper.

MISCELLANEOUS:  ** 2 receipts on one sheet, mentioning Ro. J. Washington, Oak Grove, 1879.
** ALS, 1882, from A. K. Phillips, commission merchant, to R. J. Washington, re delivery of coal.
** Another similar, Sept. 1882.(The coal was apparently shipped by boat.) **ALS from W. H. Fairfax, Treasurer of Westmoreland County, June 1883, re taxes due for 1882.. Lists taxes due from family members including  R. J., George, and Lloyd Washington. Acreage and tax listed. Accompanied by 4 receipts. Despite the contents, a friendly letter. **2 post cards from the banking house of Burke and Herbert to R. J. Washington, atty, 1884 and 1886, re account. **ALS, 4 pages, from J. W. Harvey, Montross, all about a disputed shipment of guano. Mentions Mr. Ruth.
