Great Western Type Foundry. Pony Specimen Book and Price List from  
Barnhart Bros. & Spindler, Incorporated, Manufacturers of Superior  
Copper-Mixed Type... Comprising a Large Variety of Types, Rules,  
Borders, Printing Presses, Paper and Card Cutters, Bookbinding  
Machinery, Etc., Together with Valuable Information to the Craft.  
Chicago: Barnhart Bros. & Spindler, [undated, but ca. 1895]. Small 8vo  
in original publisher's red cloth stamped in black;  
[1-3]-292,292A-292H,293-563,[1] p.

With sections on copper-mixed type faces, newspaper and book faces,  
wood type; borders, ornaments and figures (including Cupids, Griffins,  
Africani, Weather Signals, Australian Ballot Symbols, Cattle Brands,  
Fists/Pointers, Check Blanks, etc., etc.); printing presses, cabinets  
and cases, and much more. Barnhart Bros. & Spindler was formed in 1869  
with the purchase of the Great Western Type Foundry, and remained  
independent until 1911. Its popular Pony Specimen Book was issued a  
number of times between 1892-1899.
Some soiling and rubbing to the boards, wear to the corners and spine  
ends; mild toning to the leaves, stain to the fore-edge of the text  
block only occasionally noticeable on the fore-edges of the leaves and  
never obtrusive, a few leaves lightly bumped at the corners, else  
clean and sound, firmly bound.
