edition. Quarto, original pictorial gray cloth stamped in gold, 
green, black & white. [156] pp. Frontispiece in colour plus three 
additional full-page inserted colour plates, 14 full-page black & 
white drawings introducing the chapters, decorated initials, title 
page, dedication page and other decorations in the text, plus the 
binding design, all by St. John. Ink name to front free endpaper, a 
few mild and tiny marks to the cloth but overall a fine, bright copy. 
A vastly superior example of this book with the front cover stamping 
unblemished. The white chalk stamping is prone to chipping and 
flaking and this copy is a remarkable survival. A rare children's 
book composed and illustrated by St. John, best known for his 
illustration of the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This is the only 
book written and illustrated by him.
