the Theatre for James Fletcher... 1750. 4to. (2),38,(6)pp. Including an
index of authors cited, and (4)pp. publisher's ads. BOUND WITH:
[Rolleston, Samuel]. A PHILOSOPHICAL DIALOGUE CONCERNING DECENCY. To
Which Is Added a Critical and Historical Dissertation on Places of
Retirement for Necessary Occasions, Together with an Account of the
Vessels and Utensils in Use Amongst the Ancients... London: Printed for
James Fletcher... 1751. 4to. 48pp. Including an index of authors
quoted. Occasional foxing. Both volumes bound together in modern calf,
gilt, over cont. boards, a bit rubbed. Round red morocco, gilt
bookplate of the English book collector Edward Hailston (d. 1890) on
the front pastedown. Four leaves with the small oval blindstamp of the
"Wigan Free Public Library."    $1,250.00 (trade discount allowed)
The first and only editions of both works, written by Rolleston.
(1702?-1766). The second work on "Places of retirement for Necessary
Occasions" has the earliest printed mention of the "water-closet."
