Johann Nicolai (1653-1708) was a professor of classical studies in
Tubigen. "De Sepulchris Hebraeorum," is a first edition, published with
a reissue of "Tractatus de Siglis Veterum," first published in 1703.
These 2 separate works were not published bound together. Nicolai deals
with ancient Jewish burial, the plates depicting various biblical
tombs, with the 3 moveable flaps that lift up to reveal the interiors
of the tombs. The second work, "De Siglis," is an important reference
source on ancient seals, signs (including magical signs) and
abbreviations, and it is very scarce.
