POE, EDGAR ALLEN. (1809-49) JOSEPH COSEY, FORGERY. AMS. Forgery of a page of instructions for “Notes on The Literati”. Two entries signed twice, once at center left with the “submit” preceding the signature and signed more boldly at bottom and dated “New York.  Feb 7. 1848” Approx. 7 1/4" x 5 1/2". Part of Cosey’s genius was to create items that would pass muster due to his evident craftsmanship and a certain level of banality. This piece is very well executed and amounts to an editorial memo for an assistant editor or a typesetter at a magazine. $450.00
