HAWKESWORTH, JOHN (Late Director of the East-India Company.) A NEW VOYAGE ROUND THE WORLD IN THE YEARS 1768, 1769, 1770 AND 1771 . . . BY CAPTAIN JAMES COOK, IN THE SHIP ENDEAVOUR, DRAWN UP FROM HIS OWN JOURNAL, AND FROM THE PAPERS OF JOSEPH BANKS . . . IN TWO VOLUMES . . . VOLUME 2 (ONLY). New-York: Printed [by Jas. Rivington] for William Aikman, Bookseller and Stationer, at Annapolis, 1774. RARE PRINTING OF A RARE BOOK. Volume 2 only. Old rubbed calf, small hole in edge of spine, joints starting to open, but sound, folding frontispiece of New Zealand natives with some wear, wrinkling and former owner's repairs on verso, but complete, [2], 250 pages. Printed bookplate within a wreath of John Campbell, Charles County, Federalist Congressman from Maryland & judge. The rare (but obtainable) normal printing with Rivington's imprint is scarce enough (the two copies currently for sale being priced at 25 & 32 thousand), but this printing for Aikman is apparently known only in 2 copies: the AAS copy (2 vols, plates mutilated), and this volume 2. NOT IN OCLC. $5,000.00 ($4,500.00 to the trade)
