pages, color frontispiece, black & white rubrics and tailpieces. Fine.
      Essays on navy life and the development of midshipmen in the Royal 
Navy. Chapters include: "On Pink-faced Precocity," "On the Amenities of 
Gunrooms," "Uniting Body and Soul," "Ordeal by Carnage," and "Training a 
Minor Ambassador." Includes a brief bibliography. This copy belonged to 
noted naval architect and historian Thomas C. Gillmer, and bears his 
ownership signature (as an ensign) at top edge of front pastedown. Bound in 
dark blue cloth over boards with gilt-stamped title on a blind-embossed 
title block on upper board. Tiny extremity rubs, otherwise crisp and
