  A scarce 19th century Etiquette book for men which apply to every aspect of gentleman's social, business, romantic, and home life. Including quotes and opinions of notable men, past and present: Opinion of Lord Byron on Eating; Sir Walter Scott's Rules For Presiding At the Table; Sir Joshua Reynolds' (18th Century Painter) Opinion of Wine At Table, etc, speeches: of- on "Literary Men," editors, scandal, sailor, poet, duel, cook, bibliographer, etc. Etiquette, Dress, Dinners, at Washington; Toasts: Masonic, Actors, Card makers, Surgeon's, "The Well Bred Man," witty toasts, plumber, baker, Military, drinking, etc. Chapter on Wines, Sherry, Champagne, etc.

"How to Use Wine at Table, with Rules for Judging the Quality of Wine, and Rules for Carving: Etiquette, or, Proper Behavior in Company, with An "American Code of Politeness" for Every Occasion; and Etiquette at Washington. Remarkable with and Conversation at Table, etc., etc., to which are added, the Duties of Chairmen of Public Meetings and Rules for The Orderly Conduct thereof, Together with Valuable Hints and Examples for Drawing up Preambles and Resolutions." "Sold Only by Subscription". Preface relates the differences of American, English and French Etiquette. In original publishers binding of brown cloth, stamped design, with publishers ornate initials stamped to center. Gilt title and publisher to spine, with gilt illustration of gentleman sitting on bench. Spine sunned, chips to both head and heal of spine, approximately 1 1/2 inch loss from rear upper and lower joint. Scrape to inside edge of rear board. Pictures of text scanned  yellow, which they are not, the paper is strong and unfoxed or toned, text strong font. I lightened the image to clean up the yellowing. Unusually bright clean paper. Tightly bound End papers are Ads for Dick & Fitzgerald books. Few scattered spots, very clean and bright text. 335 pp., 6 pp publisher ads. First  Edition. Sm. 8 vo. In protective clear archival film wrap.
