BAUDELAIRE, Charles. LES FLEURS DU MAL. Paris: Limited Editions Club,
1940. Octavo (7" x 9") bound in full gray morocco with multi-colored
morocco onlays on the front cover and the original light blue wraps
bound in, the binding signed by Denise Laurence. The definitive edition
of the original French text with a preface by Camille Mauclair.
Illustrated with 6 full-page and 21 part-page pen and wash drawings by
Auguste Rodin, printed in collotype by Georges Duval and hand-colored by
Maruice Beaufume in Paris. The illustrations are reproduced from the
copy of the book Rodin illustrated for Paul Gallimard. Copy #142 of
1500, unsigned as issued. Fine copy, bright and fresh including the
original wraps in a Fine, specially made slipcase.
This title was delayed seven years in shipment because of World War II
with members not receiving the book until 1947. The books were stored
under great hazard during the Nazi occupation and could not be finished
until the war in Europe had concluded. (#016088) $500.00
