59 copper engraved folding plates and 2 folding tables. Copper engraved
title page vignettes, headpieces and historiated initials. Orig.
vellum, gilt lettered spine labels, a bit soiled. Both spines with
minor worming. Title pages with some old soiling & foxing. Engraved
armorial bookplates on front pastedowns.    $4,500.00
Maria Gaetana Agnesi (1718-1799) is "the first woman in the Western
World who can accurately be called a mathematician... She treated
finite processes in the first volume and infinitesimal analysis in the
second. There were many genuinely new things in her masterpiece."
