Walter Scott: The Lay of the Last Minstrel : A Poem. London: Printed  
for Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme ... and A. Constable and Co.  
Edinburgh, by James Ballantyne, Edinburgh, 1805. FIRST EDITION. Large  
4to (27 x 21.5 cm; 10.5 x 8.5 in) in recent paper-covered boards,  
printed spine label; [6] + 319 + [3] pp.; lacking half-title but with  
the terminal errata leaf... Freshly rebound in a handsome modern  
interpretation of the original publisher's boards of the period. First  
edition of the book that put Walter Scott on the literary map and set  
him on his way to becoming the most famous and popular writer of his  
time. Remarkably for such a landmark work, only 750 copies of the  
first edition were printed.

[Walter Scott:] Tales of My Landlord, Third Series, Collected and  
Arranged by Jedediah Cleishbotham, Schoolmaster and Parish-Clerk of  
Gandercleugh. Edinburgh: Printed for Archibald Constable and Co. [et  
all], 1819. FIRST EDITION. Four volumes, small 8vos (17.5 cm), bound  
in half calf and marbled boards; half-titles in vols. I and IV.  
Includes The Bride of Lammermoor. Ex-reference library, but with  
minimal library marks: bookplates on front paste-downs, blind-stamp  
on  title-pages. Boards well rubbed, spines worn, some bumping and  
wear to the edges, most of the hinges are cracked but all boards are  
secure; mild toning and occasional light spotting to the leaves, but  
contents generally quite clean and sound, firmly bound.

[Walter Savage Landor:] Count Julian: A Tragedy. London: Printed for  
John Murray, 1812. FIRST EDITION. Small 8vo (17 cm) in period marbled  
boards, rebacked in modern leather with gilt-stamped spine label; [6]  
+ 248; half-title not bound in. One of Walter Savage Landor's earliest  
published works and his first published play, printed in "a small  
edition," according to the Oxford DNB. From the collection of Landor  
biographer and bibliographer Robert H. Super, with his ms. name and  
address (Princeton) on the front flyleaf. Wear to the boards, inner  
hinges professionally repaired, light foxing to the (blank) endpapers,  
otherwise very crisp and clean, firmly and handsomely bound.

Walter Savage Landor: Imaginary Conversations of Literary Men and  
Statesmen. London: Printed for Taylor and Hessey, 1824. FIRST EDITION.  
Two volumes, 8vo (21.5 cm), in full period navy blue diced calf with  
gilt borders and spine titles; 362 + [4], 394 + [6] pp... A handsome  
set. From the collection of Landor biographer and bibliographer Robert  
H. Super, with his ms. name and address (Oxford) on the front  
flyleaves. Loosely laid in is the 1937 invoice for Super's purchase of  
the set from Arthur Rogers, Dealer in Rare Books, Newcastle-on-Tyne.  
First edition of Landor's most famous work, a venture into speculative  
history consisting of imaginary encounters between great personages of  
ancient and modern history, Queen Elizabeth, Bonaparte, Demosthenes,  
George Washington, Pericles, Samuel Johnson, Landor himself, etc. etc.  
The work proved popular enough that Landor produced three more volumes  
of conversations in 1828-29.

[Walter Savage Landor:] The Pentameron and Pentalogia. London:  
Saunders and Otley, 1837. FIRST EDITION. Full polished calf binding by  
Francis Bedford (repaired), with gilt-tooled borders and morocco spine  
labels, gilt-tooled dentelles, marbled endpapers; 8vo (20 cm); 384  
pp.; with the half-title and tipped-in errata slip...

William Wordsworth: Yarrow Revisited, and Other Poems. London:  
Longman, Rees, Orme [et al], 1835. FIRST EDITION. Hardcover 8vo (18  
cm) in paper-covered boards and cloth spine, original spine label   
laid down; xv, [1], 349, [5] p.; with the half-title, tipped-in  
erratum slip, and publisher's adverts at the end. Rubbing and light  
soiling to the boards, spine label darkened and rubbed; soiling and  
spotting to the half-title and title-pages, the half-title with a  
paper-repaired tear at the edge, gutter between the two leaves  
separating a bit; light toning to the contents; otherwise clean and  
sound, firmly bound.
