TITLE: “A Collection of Epitaphs and Inscriptions interesting either from
historical associations or quaintness of wording.”

By Edmund Goldsmid, F.R.H.S., F.S.A. (Scot.)
Privately printed in Edinburgh: 1885 (and) 1886. One of 75 Large paper
copies. There was also an edition of 275 small paper copies. 2 Volumes

DISCUSSION: Ranging from the amusing to the tragic, these two volumes
contain epitaphs for Dukes and slaves alike, written by the likes of
Jonathan Swift and Benjamin Franklin (who, not surprisingly, wrote one for
himself), as well as those written by anonymous friends, relatives and
clergy. The first volume includes a transcription of a 1598 description of
the tombs at Westminster Abbey and a handy index of both volumes.

DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 2 volumes. 5.5"x9", 54 + 48 pages. Both volumes
have the original buff printed softcovers with title pages printed in red
and black.

CONDITION NOTES: There is moderate soil to the covers and also some
internal spotting and a little soil. The spine head and tail of Volume 1
are slightly chipped and there is a minor split along the spine. The pages
of both volumes are unopened along the top.
