Ardwight Chamberlain
L.A.

[Gautier de Costes de La Calprenede:] The Famous History of Cassandra:
Containing many Admirable Adventures of the most Illustrious Persons
of Either Sex. In five Parts. Written originally in French, and newly
Translated into English, by several Hands. London: Printed for Isaac
Cleave, John Pero, and Eben. Tracy, 1703. FIRST EDITION. Thick 8vo
bound in full period calf; [2], ii, 286, 208, 127, [1] p. ESTC T99106.
Lacking the frontispiece, and the second leaf of the preface (A2) has
been torn out (facsimile will be provided); leaves B1-B8 and 3H1-3H2
(16 leaves total) are soiled with wear and chipping to the edges
(affecting several words on two leaves), as if they came loose at some
point, got kicked around a bit, and then were rebound with the rest.
Binding worn, bumped and rubbed, with creasing to the spine; one page-
gathering a bit loose, though secure, and protruding slightly from the
text block; several leaves bumped/creased at the top corner; scattered
spotting and generally light soiling throughout. A rather rough but
essentially sound example of an uncommon book: ESTC locates copies in
only 6 libraries in the U.S., 4 in the UK.
