engraved title by Peter Paul Reubens. Large woodcut printer’s device on
verso of final (privilege) leaf. Elaborately blind tooled paneled calf,
a bit worn, nicely rebacked, black morocco spine label. Inked ownership

A series of letters from Pius V to prominent men of his time (from 1566
to 1572). It includes references to the war with the Turks and the
Battle of Lepanto (1571). The editor, Francois Goubau, was the Spanish
ambassador to Rome.
